Perspective Project Description
My Perspective Project is based off of a very personal concept that I think about almost on a daily basis. This concept is who I will be when I grow up. Will I be a business man? a doctor? a famous artist? will I even have a job? These are all questions that I think about frequently and cause me to reflect on decisions that I have made in the past, and think about ones I will make in the future. This concept successfully qualifies for the project's theme of "reflection". In the painting, I portray myself (with no mouth) surrounded by mirrors. In each of these mirrors, is a different version or outcome of myself in the future. This portrays the different paths that I can choose in life and how each path might result. For example, from left to right, in the first mirror, I am portrayed as a homeless man, in the second, a doctor, and in the last one, a business man. In the portrait, I have no mouth to express how in terms of fate, I have really no say in what I become. This is because that I believe that almost anything happens for a reason and I will be in my rightful place one day. My project is painted with a color study from one of Jean-Michel Basquiat's untitled pieces. This color study includes, vibrant, primary colors accompanied by many dull colors, blacks, and whites. I hope that my portrait successfully conveys the concept of destiny and how there are many different paths that we can take in life, each one with its own unique outcome.
P.S. Apologies for the torn up color study (the pages stuck together).
