Sacred Vessel Mini-Concentration: Halloween Consumerism

I chose to do my mini-concentration regarding "sacred vessels" on Halloween. You might not think this connection is very easy to see. And you would be correct, because it really isn't. However, when you get really artsy about it, you might be able to see that Halloween, a holiday in which almost no one knows the actual origins of, has become quite the sacred holiday in the United States. Through this mini-project I propose that in regard to "sacred vessels", Halloween has become a sacred vessel for consumerism in America. We so religiously partake in its events, and we regard it as sacred, even if we don't really know much about it. I mean, looking back, from the day we chose our first halloween costumes, we were hooked. We loved it as children. We loved the costumes, the decorations, and of course, the candy. But did we really know why and how Halloween was happening? Not a whole lot of people stop to think about the $8.00 bag of candy/ the $50.00 costume/ the $200.00 assortment of decorations they just purchased, they just know that these things are necessary to have a good time. They're necessary to make an excuse for a holiday. Don't get me wrong here, I  LOVE Halloween, its just surprised me when I realized how little of an explanation I could come up with when I stopped to think about why we actually celebrate it. In truth, there isn't a whole lot of background behind it, and no one really knows why we so heavily participate in it, but we can all agree that it can be a whole lot of fun!
